For the first time in Greece, a Master of Science in Homeopathy entitled Holistic Alternative Therapeutic systems-Classical Homeopathy (www.syros.aegean.gr/homeopathy) has been formally set up by the Ministry of Education (Government's Gazette, 1912/issue bf, 29.12.2006 - see "FEK - MASTERS").

This Masters Programme, which has been in place on the Cycladic island of Syros since October 2007, is organised by the Department of Product and Systems Design Engineering (University of the Aegean) (www.aegean.gr). It is a two-year programme and is aimed at medical doctors and dentists. The International Academy for Classical Homeopathy on the island Alonissos (www.vithoulkas.com) is actively involved with the running of this Masters' programme, and teaching is provided by Professor George Vithoulkas.

In this Academy George Vithoulkas shares the knowledge gleaned from his 40 years of experience, and teaches his most recent theories regarding levels of health. In his teachings he provides detailed information that helps doctors determine each patient's state of health, as well as facilitating their ability to estimate whether a case is curable with homeopathy and the amount of time and remedies that will be needed to accomplish a cure.

From 2005 to 2008 the University of the Aegean in cooperation with the International Academy for Classical Homeopathy has been offering a programme of continuous training in homeopathy for medical doctors, dentists, veterinarians and pharmacists.

In April 2006 the Thessaloniki Medical Institute decided that Homeopathy and Acupuncture is regarded as a medical practice by the state and may only be practiced by medical doctors trained in this therapeutic method.

According to the Government's Gazette, 918, 14.12.1994, a decision was taken as to the harmonization of Greek legislation with the relevant European laws on the institution of legislative rules and administrative provisions for homeopathic pharmaceutical products for human use according to the Council's 72/73 EEC Recommendation ( see "FEK - HOM.PHARMAKA").
